Chapter 16: The Newcomers

Helen decided to take a nap under the oak tree. Her head was on Matthew’s lap. Rex and him were trying to make a plan based on the things they knew, which meant almost nothing.

“So, everything became mental now. Their bodies got weaker, their brains and eyes got bigger. That could be useful for us if they didn’t think we’re freaks or something,” said Matthew while eating his vegetable paste.

“Shouldn’t they glorify us? You know, we’re stronger than them,” Rex was trying to clean a stain on his dress by spitting on it.

“They don’t care about it anymore,” tried to explain Matthew.

“But it is an instinct. You can’t just turn it off!” said Rex with a high voice. Matthew shushed, Rex was about to wake Helen.

“Maybe, deep down, they are afraid of us, that’s why they hate us. That is usually the source of fear,” said Matthew.
