On Serine's insistence, she and Rem talked through many different plans for escaping from the Masquerade well into the remainder of the night and early morning. Each plan had multiple parts where it could go catastrophically bad though, and eventually the two settled down to sleep with nothing set up.
Rather than the usual banging on the door that woke Serine most evenings, a gentle knocking roused her. She yawned, looking around as she got up. Rem was still sound asleep on the floor, having positioned themselves between Serine and the door. Serine smiled as Rem rolled over, flopping one hand onto the mattress, and gently stepped over them. She pulled the door open and looked out.
"Oh, good evening, sir," she said, pulling at her t-shirt.
"Did you sleep well, dear?" Isaiah asked. He glanced behind her at Rem and shook his head, amused.
"Yes, sir, thank you." Serine edged around him and out into the hall, shutting the door behind her.
