The lovely, shy Serine is a psion with the ability to speak directly into the minds of others roaming the streets of Chicago. Rem’s mind catches her attention, and given no choice, she assists in their capture.

Rem and Serine slowly grow feelings for each other with Serine coming to terms that she wants out of the gang for good, but leaving the Masquerade—and the possessive Isaiah—is easier said than done.

A very slow two days passed for Rem. Since Serine had been given a suite, they'd been instructed to stay in the tiny room and to not bother her. Cut off from Serine and with no other instructions or missions given to them, Rem had taken to prowling the halls of the mansion during the day while the rest of the Masquerade slept. 


They refamiliarized themselves with the various rooms, learning who slept where and when, when Lena was in the kitchens verses her own room, and the other comings and goings of the gang. Not much had changed since Rem had last been a member. A few new members had come, a few had gone, and rooms had been reshuffled a little, but the basic routine remained the same.
