Chapter 47: Blood and Battle

Rem's POV

"I suppose I have you to thank for the ruin you've brought down on my home," Isaiah continued.

"This doesn't have to be a fight, Isaiah," Rem warned him. They held their hands out, protecting Serine.

A monstrous smile crawled across Isaiah's face. Serine took a step back while Rem held their ground in the face of it.

"I think you know it does, Remmis," Isaiah replied. "An attack on my home cannot go unanswered."

"Serine, break the window and run for it," Rem said over their shoulder.

"I'm not leaving you again," Serine replied. She swallowed hard and clenched her fists, staring at Isaiah.

Their head pounding from so many shifts, Rem didn't argue. They focused on Isaiah's slow approach and stepped away from Serine. The vampire followed, matching their pace. He didn't see Serine as a threat and ignored her for the moment.

"Last chance, Isaiah," Rem growled, flexing their clawed hands.
