Genetics

'Damnit!'

3-months quickly passed.

He had been at it, attempting to control this monstrosity you could call aurora. More rebellious than most children, It had been making his life for the last two months a living hell. He could've sword the damn stuff was sentient, it was rebelling against him in every possible fashion you could think of.

It had taken him a little over a month alone to even gain consciousness over it. Which in no doubt was considered incredible, his growth unmatched by most. But he assumed it to be in place due to his own age. He could confirm It was no myth that you learn at an incredible rate when in your early years.

But that was just the easy part, yeah sure he could now sense the energy but that didn't mean he could use it.

People where born with different levels of natural attachment to the aurora. Decided by you'll never believe it, genetics! He had more than average in that subject thankfully. But it wasn't by much. Most couldn't feel it like he could yet he could only barely. Either way, it worked out for him as after consecutively focussing on it for every conscious moment he had, that thing he had named his "bloodstream" had finally awoken.

'If this is what having children is like then I'm never getting married' he truly had never appreciated parents enough.

Anyways...

He wasn't sure how many circuits he had, Unlike most fictional characters he couldn't assess the exact amount of anything. he was confident there was some application for a scanner of sorts though. How else would they be able to gather data on it, he knew for sure they wouldn't waste their time counting them.

According to the index the majority of the population, at least from what studies showed was that the average had about 100k-200k with 300k beholding around one in ten, 400k with around one in 1,500. Anything beyond that he wasn't aware of.

But in all honesty quote, I say "however, it isn't the number of circuits one contains that takes up the majority of their concern, No. Even 100,000 circuits are finely enough to let you explore your own limitations in formations for centuries. Which would be the limitation for most. The true concern is the rarity of such circuits" That's right, there's power scaling baby!

The classes went as following: Silver, Gold, Scarlet, Lavender, Amaranth, and Black. Worst to best.

'They just canceled racism'

And according to the studies, about 90% of your circuits were Silver, with the rest being gold, and typically about 1-5 Scarlet's, variation based on genetics as always.

The pure chance of having a lavender-grade circuit was about one in 10,000. And an amaranth was once a dozen generations. Much less black which they only knew existed because a guy had it a couple of thousand years ago.

'Damn I hope I get good circuits' now he had, even more, to take into account. There was luck, talent, patience, and imagination involved at this point. Something he wasn't sure to be grateful for or not.

Luck was a tricky thing, you could hate it or you could love it. But regardless it holds no feelings or biases towards you. You got what you got and that was the end of it. He was just really, really, hoping he'd get good luck, or in this case good genes.

He let his mind wander, eventually coming back to his focus.

'Why is this so hard?'

Controlling aurora wasn't as easy as just telling your circuits to pump it as if it was your best friend. No. It was like having to learn to control a new type of limb. Except with

every. Single. God forsaking. One.

So not only would you have to learn how this limb works, with all its muscles, joints, and bones, you also had to not forget how to use such a contraption. And there were hundreds of thousands of these. Each with a unique physique and traits. And the higher grade a circuit was, the more complex its structure.

Luckily the average person's life span here was longer, much, longer. Apparently, in this world, there were different categories of humans. Or otherwise known as "sub-humans"

Everyone belonged to a variation of sub-human. Each race has its characteristics. some with more aurora than others, some with a higher circuit grade average. And some just had blatant talent in controlling aurora.

He had learned that according to what sub-human variation you belonged to you had certain traits in not only your aurora circuits but also your fundamental body! And it went deeper!

There were nine sets of sub-humans. Now he wasn't sure about most of them since he had only learned about the existence of the concept at all, but so far he was aware of his own, "Asulil"

Asulil's carried some incredibly handy traits that he wouldn't mind taking. One was that their aurora levels had the second-highest average of all nine. And not by far. It seemed to him that the position for number one had been switching between the two for generations.

Not only this but their senses in all categories were said to be at the top of all nine. Rumor had it their vision was so good they could perceive time at a faster rate, the smell from miles, and hear the tiniest of vibrations.

But the thing that really separated them from the rest, the aspect that he praised the most, and a trait all the other bloodlines were jealous of, was their life force.

You see, every sub-human in Myrid, or this planet in other words, had an incredible life span compared to any one of his last. The sub-humans with the lower life spans would die of old age at around 1200. But those with the largest life spans, those of the Asilils, could live well past two thousand years. With the oldest on record at 4,284. On the scale of things, A time difference of three thousand years was like heaven and earth.

But of course, with every powerhouse of nature, there was course some drawbacks. Number one, they had one of the lowest average rarity circuits. The lowest amount of natural control over aurora, and some of the physically weakest bodies. Asilil's were meant for mid or long-range attacks. Not head on physical ones.

All this held them back from truly dominating the scene. But in the end, it was the same with the other sub-humans. Each had unique characteristics that if not for their drawbacks, would put them miles ahead of one another.

But lucky for him, that might not be the end. You see this was the side that belonged to his mother, but he still had no clue of his father's lineage. All he could hope was that he inherited the best of both worlds. That was if they were different at all.

The only other sub-human type he was aware of was "Rinko" a type of sub-human with currently, the largest amounts of aurora you could ask for. Unlike Asilils, however, they had a relatively average life span. But to make up for it, they carried a high average circuit rarity. On top of this, they had incredible physical bodies. Not the best, but close. But their senses, Aurora control, and number of circuits altogether were all average or lacking.

He could thank the library at his little hub for all this, it truly was a blessing he was born into an area full of knowledge. He had spent every second he could in here, reading away. While his mother lay cozily in a rocking chair in the corner.

'Yes! Finally!' Atreyu was getting closer! He had finally gained basic control over yet another Aurora circuit. This was his 200th so far! And he could start to feel some progress being made. It seemed the more he did this, the shorter it took him to colonize each and every circuit. Only by a short amount, but the gap in time was getting larger and larger each time. Similarly to compound interest.

'I should have the control to create a basic spell by the time i'm one' he had made sure to reset his aurora many times to observe was circuits did what. And he had pieced together a spot in his body that according to the book, was the most basic approach to creating fire. All he had to do was get enough control over those distinct circuits and he'd be ready to go! In fact, he had found the recipe only required about 7-circuits. And he had already gained control over them.

The problem was the amount of control, he had once again underestimated the work it would take. To send enough aurora to accurately make it to the next circuit was the easy part. The hard part was blocking out the aurora from every other channel colliding with that circuit. And 6-times no less. That may not be a lot, but for someone who just learned to wield aurora, it wasn't easy either. His circuits already pumped Aurora through his body naturally, he just needed to learn how to control which direction it went in.

He looked back at the small library, where his mom sat, reading a history book. "The Hexri Period" And the hundreds of scrolls, tablets, and books. It couldn't even be considered a library, to be honest, It was more just a corner packed with books. With some chairs and a rug spread about.

'This is going to be a long day'
