Chapter 27: The Boy With Black Wings

Upstairs Nori fluffed the pillows and set some aside on the dresser. This room had always been the guest room that the company stayed in even when she'd been little.

The queen-sized bed was slightly bigger than her double-sized mattress in her room right next door and it was way more comfortable. The walls were beige and maroon, and the bedspread had a red duvet and white sheets.

Brad stood in the doorway, watching her.

“You can sleep here tonight,” said Nori, “Unless you’d prefer the couch?”

“Sleep?” muttered Brad, “What is sleep?”

Nori pulled the duvet back and turned back to Brad. He was standing right behind her. Brad’s face was inches away from hers.

“Jeez, you sneak up on people for a living?” She breathed, laughing nervously.

Nori's breath caught. The lamp on the nightstand lit up his face and she noticed flecks of amber in his eyes. It was like watching jewels float among pools of darkness. She had to mentally jolt her heart back to life.
