Chapter 46: The Backpack

“I think we just passed it,” said Nori, patting Brad’s shoulder. He was busy trying to translate his instructions to the chauffeur.

The small, box shaped black cab smelled strongly of cigarettes and fresh bread. The chauffeur gesticulated with his cigarette hand and spoke in rapid French.

“I did not ask for a tour, I just wanted to get to the Champs-Elysees,” said Brad.

Nori watched the traffic around her. It was incredible how many people flocked to Paris in the springtime.

They were everywhere, big groups of them, couples strolling with baby-buggies, people walking pets. It was absolute chaos and it was a Friday on top of that.

The car weaved down a clogged street.

Nori tried to take in everything. She felt overwhelmed and mesmerized all at the same time and it made her knees bounce and her hands shake. Then she froze and pressed her face against the glass squinting.

“Well I’ll be darned,” she said, “Brad, I see them.”
