With wine in hand, Alex arrived at Ken and Beth's house for their Saturday dinner and game night. The pleasant aroma of Beth's famous spaghetti filled the house. Alex's mouth watered. She wished she could cook as well as her friend. When Beth was a child, her grandmother lived with her family and taught her everything about cooking and baking. Alex recalled the many times she'd heard Ken tease Beth, telling her that her superb cooking skills were the only reason he married her.
Beth served dinner, and as usual, the compliments were plentiful. The adults sat at the elegantly set dining room table; the kids sat at Emma's Dora folding table, which came fully equipped with pink folding chairs. The twins expressed their discontent with sitting on the "girly" chairs. After a couple of minutes alone with their dad, they seemed to adjust just fine.
