Her father stopped speaking, and the room fell silent. As he placed his mug on the table, he knocked the cake plate, pulling Mina out of the story world he created as he spoke.


'You were quite daring when you were younger.' Mina laughed. 'I understand why you didn't tell us that particular story before. No parent wants to encourage their child to go gallivanting off after criminals.'


'As I've already said, I didn't know then what I know now. But that wasn't actually the point of my telling this to you.'


Her father raised an eyebrow, a signal to Mina that she wasn't going to get away with only discussing the adventurous elements of his tale.


'I guessed that, but your situation and mine are hardly the same. Firstly, you didn't become the plaything of a wealthy woman - you married someone who respected your abilities and became joint ruler of Aria. Also, you chose to marry Mother, and only after taking control of your life.'
