Chapter 44: Detente III

Too much of Peter's special mead the night before made it difficult to get herself out of bed the next morning. Snuggling deeper into the bedclothes, she rolled around until she found a comfortable spot and tried to go back to sleep. Unfortunately guilt overcame lethargy. Kicking the blankets off, she forced herself to get up.

Making herself a cup of reviving tea, Amelia avoided looking at the dishes she had not washed yesterday. After taking a chair outside, she sipped her tea in the sun and planned her day. Having closed her eyes for a moment, she jerked them open to find Anders standing in front of her, a big grin on his face

'Good morning,' he said cheerfully, and she grunted in response. 'I see you are not doing too well this morning. Dad's home brew can do that to you.'

Her stomach sunk a little, she needed a frank talk with Anders about her expectations for the future. Now was as good a time as any. 'Would you like some tea? The water is still hot.'
