Chapter 43: Detente II

Two days later, Amelia was washing up after having spent the day extending her herb garden, when she caught sight of a figure emerging from the woods. Anders approached the house, carrying a bouquet of wildflowers. She opened the door for him, but he would not meet her eyes.

'Amelia, I am sorry. Can we start again?' he said, holding the flowers out towards her.

However, given recent events, she allowed a little of her magic to touch Anders and whispered, 'Ceerelesse.' She read confusion and regret, and perhaps a tingle of embarrassment. Satisfied his intentions were genuine, she took the flowers and invited him in.

'Mother asked me to see if you wanted to join us for dinner and meet her newest grandchild, who arrived last night. We are having something of a celebration. Of course, one of us will walk you home after.'
