CH 23: final preparations

After his speech John let everyone stop clapping before putting everyone into teams. Everyone now had equipment so there was no one left behind. Once everyone was in there teams John instructed them to go and defeat as many goblins as possible without worrying about the loot drops, unless they dropped skill stones.

It was pretty late so they only hunted for a few hours before heading back and eating dinner.

"John we ran out of food from the canteen!" a student who was in charge of food informed him

"damn it, maybe we can cook up the goblins and eat them." John mumbled under his breath but the student heard it anyway.

"that sounds like it could be a good idea but I don't think people would be comfortable eating that." the student who John now remembered was called jenny replied

After deliberating John decided to tell everyone about the lack of food and told everyone that they would be eating goblin for now on and if they didn't like it then they didn't need to eat it but they would instead need to gather their own food from somewhere else. Fortunately everyone agreed except for a few vegans and vegetarians and a few pescatarians. With these few groups of people John sat them down and explained more in depth about the food shortage and they could either eat monsters or starve, a couple decided to eat goblins whilst the others had decided not to. John had to give credit for their determination for sticking to their beliefs but also believed that they were stupid and that they wouldn't survive long if they refused to eat goblins.

Once the food problem was sorted and a large amount of goblin bodies were dragged back a few food tech students were but in charge of cooking overseen by another student who had been taught by their father to be a butcher. A few hours later many hungry stomachs were finally full after gorging themselves on the delicious monster meat.

"I never thought that goblins would actually taste nice." josh commented as he laid down

Many people agreed but John wasn't paying attention to that but instead the system notifications which followed after the meal.

[monster meat consumed

Species: 2nd evolution goblin

Mutated: negative

Innate Talent: scouting ]

John looked at the screen and wondered what good this was. Why had he been told about the goblin that he ate? His questions were answered not long after as he received more notifications.

[Innate Talent: scouting gained]

[ERROR - Innate Talent already filled]

[Innate Talent: scouting will become skills]

[skill (light steps) gained]

[skill (tracking) gained]

[skill (bestiary) gained]

John smiled at the new skills, after all more skills meant a higher chance of surviving the boss fight tomorrow and at their current strength they may need as much strength as possible. What John didn't notice was that everyone else was seeing the same thing as him. Infront of everyone was a screen asking if they wanted to gain an Innate Talent whilst others were asked if they would like to swap their current Innate Talent for a new one. Those who rejected the Innate talent they gained some new skills whilst those who accepted gained new knowledge which was previously non existent. Not knowing what had been happening John decided to check what his new skills done and whether or not he would be able to implement them into his fighting style.

[skill: light steps Lv:1

Allows the user to lower the sound of their footsteps and at later levels even hide their aura ]

[skill: tracking Lv:1 (passive)

Allows the user to track their prey easier ]

[skill: bestiary Lv:MAX (passive)

Whenever something is learnt about a creature, person or monster the information is stored inside a type of library inside the mind. This can be accessed either through the (inspect) skill or by thinking about what creature, person or monster you want to know about ]

John was proud of this as he had gained two passive skills in one go and a useful skill for surprise attacks. After checking through his system and looking through his skills John decided to test them all out and surprisingly so did everyone else. On every floor of the canteen the sound of people using new skills could be heard. John decided to try every skill In an attempt to level them all up or atleast level some of them up. He managed to meditate for a while longer and increase his magic related skills whilst the other settlement members had similar success in their own new skills.

It was now early morning and John ordered everyone to sleep before heading out to defeat the goblin boss. John looked at his missions and was excited for them to be completed and he was pleasantly surprised at how the goblin mayor had not evolved yet.

Once everyone ate and gotten their equipment ready they all set out to defeat the boss. There were 457 students left as of now as some had died during the training but no one held that against John as he had tried his best to make them all prepared to fight. Out of the students 152 were long ranged oriented whilst 305 were close combat oriented. John made the students go into this number for each role as he wanted enough warriors to protect the archers. Once everyone's roles were set and the plan gone over a few times they finally left for the field.
