Chapter 25: Emergency Council

Just as she promised, Liana taught her to read. Rain was nervous entering Liana’s room, Accalia showing her the way but turns out there was no need to be.

Liana showed her the alphabet. As Liana had her write the symbols out over and over, Liana told her stories about her children.

How Accalia cried when she learned they hunted rabbits in the forest for food. How the first time Orion brought one back, She’d cried so hard she got herself sick for three days. Orion never brought a dead rabbit back again.

Or How Orion used to hate baths with a passion. Liana used to chase him around the house, trying to catch his naked form to get him in the tub. He used to pretend to be sick to get out of having a bath.

And when Accalia had been born, Liana told her how Orion had been so excited he’d been the first person to hold her after Liana herself. How Orion promised he’d protect Accalia no matter what.

Though the stories were kind, were loving, there was a melancholy between them.
