Rude meets rude

“I’ve met you before. You’re that office clerk who stares rudely at people. How are you able to afford this type of car as an ordinary office clerk?” she asked matter-of-factly.

Lucas stared at her in shock and had to make a conscious effort to close his mouth. He had never met anybody who was so blunt and insulting before. This was their second meeting, and to be frank, he was even surprised that she was talking to him at all this time around. The first time, it had been at a restaurant down the road the week before. She had been sitting alone, so Lucas had gone to ask her if she could sit with her. She looked him up and down haughtily, and resumed eating her food without saying a single word. So he sat down and began babbling, telling her that he just moved to the city and was working as a clerk in one of the offices nearby. The look she had given him when he said that had shut him up as effectively as if she had clamped his mouth shut with a padlock.
