Part Six
"what were you thinking up there?" she breathed out , I looked in her eyes noticing the genuine concern in them I opened my mouth and couldn't find the right words " you don't have to answer that , sorry stupid question" she nervously chuckled
"i'm Rae your name iss ? .." she paused waiting patiently for my response "Ge-Genesis" I choked out not really sure as why she cared enough to know my name , she smiled and I notice my stomach flutter
"Well genesis i'm not sure what possessed you to do something so crazy , but i'm intrigued" she stood up and dusted herself off; I took the time to study her.
She wore a black Nike Tech , Black pants and matching black Nike Slides . Her hair was naturally colored ginger and curly hanging over her eyes covering them almost completely ; she moved some out the way so our eyes could meet .
"you hungry Genesis ?" her question caught me off guard especially considering the current circumstances but , I couldn't help but feel appreciative. She could've watched me from a distance like everybody else but she didn't , she could've walked past me like every other person did .. but she didn't ; I couldn't help but wonder why. The sound of her clearing her throat snapped me back into reality " Uh , yeah sorry" I say self consciously while smiling halfheartedly "I can eat" Rae returns the gesture and reaches her hand out for me to grab "I hope you like greasy foods and loud music"
I grab her hand feeling the familiar strong but gentle grip and i'm hoping she didn't notice the slight panic on my face from the connection I felt;
"what was that ?' I thought but, quickly brushing the thought away I get up and respond " greasy foods yeah , loud music hmm not so much" scrunching my nose up she laughed contagiously causing me to laugh in return and in that moment i actually felt ..
good.
I follow her as she heads in the direction of wherever shes taking me , having to walk a little faster due to her being slightly taller , which I didn't really pay attention too until now. the wind chill slowly dropped down and I definitely should've reconsidered on bringing a jacket , I think Rae noticed me shiver or shes just really considerate because she takes her jacket off and stops dead in her tracks "come here , you're obviously cold" she holds the jacket up insisting I put it on I tell her no thank you but she just starts putting it on me anyway ; thank god curse me and my stubbornness.
She comes closer to zip it up and I couldnt stop my mind from wandering "she smells good" "wait what!?" I mentally slap myself "Get it together Genesis" i say out loud without realizing it, mentally slapping myself again once she looks at me kind of amused and asks if im alright "yeah im fine thanks , this was nice of you " she smiled and nodded
"yeah of course , dont mention it" she grabs my hand and we start walking again 'there it is again , what is this feeling and does she feel it too?' .
We cross a few more streets and walk down a few long blocks before heading towards a ducked off building w two dull lights side by side at the entrance " so .." Rae says "you've never been here before ?" "nope" i say making sure to pop the P
" I dont really eat out" which was true my mom and john took the twins out to eat often .. never with me though they always made up some bogus excuse up on why I couldn't go . "lucky youu , you get to taste everything for the first time" she says poking her lip out in an attempt to look upset I roll my eyes at her gesture and reach to open the door. Before I could even open the door fully my ears are indeed greeted with the sound of loud music "yikes" I say loud enough for just me to hear.
We walk in and order , I don't know the menu so I let her pick , I kind of lost the little appetite I had on the way anyway.
I follow her to the seats and sit down watching her take the seat across from me. I occupy myself w my phone for awhile before getting bored and deciding to break the silence "Rae" i say quickly receiving her attention " you live around here?" she shook her head " no , i'm here w my aunt she wanted to visit a friend right up the street from here , we actually stay a few hours from here though . what about you?" her question brought it to my attention that i had absolutely no where to go .. i'm not even supposed to be alive right now " I don't even know" I answer honestly gaining a look of concern from Rae
" What do you mean?' she says as she shifts in her seat.
"Well, if it wasn't for you I wouldn't even be here .. thanks by the way I wasn't thinking straight " Rae nods
"but , I don't really wanna go home" I say putting up air quotes "nor am I really wanted there soooo yeah. I don't know"
I shrug "a shelter maybe" she frowns at my words and goes into deep thought briefly before making eye contact with me "Genesis" she says her voice sounding a little more serious "yeah .." I answer "this is going to sound crazy and it might even just be the most irrational thing i've ever done" she says rambling almost "but , you're coming with me and i'm not taking no for an answer" her words left me stunned and my thoughts came rushing in 'you don't even know me'
'why do you care so much' 'your jacket smells really good' 'we're complete strangers to each other' but instead of saying any of that I opened my mouth and the only word I managed to get out was "okay". she smiled instantly at my response never breaking eye contact with me , and for some reason I couldn't seem to pull away either .
A lady with a tray full of food came from out the back heading in our direction but we didn't pay her any mind. I focused on her face taking in every feature that I hadn't noticed before she had very soft freckles that were only visible in the light , her eyes had specks of brown in them and her lips .. 'why would you look at her lips?!' I panicked and looked back at her eyes only to find her looking at my lips too , I subconsciously lick them causing her to lick hers. Her eyes make their way back to mine and her face inches towards me 'what is she doing ??' I think to myself feeling my heart rate increase as the gap between us becomes smaller and smaller- "sorry about the wait here you guys go" the lady says abruptly making me look up at her rather startled. Rae never took her eyes off me and I felt my cheeks start to burn . Without looking at the lady she smirks at me and says "To go please".
