Right before her very eyes, the woman that had cared for her, the woman that that had raised her to be who she was... Dead, she was dead.
She was not the only one in shock, a short boy could also be seen crying, his face still showed no change yet there were tears leaking from his eyes.
But she did not cry, her brain was still trying to process what was happening. Monsters, disgusting monsters. What did they ever do to deserve this? She was kind, or well... tried to be. Her brother beat her in that aspect, being the kindest human being in the world. He was such a good child. Why was he crying? Why? Why is she dead? She could have pulled her away faster. But she didn't...
She was stuck in this trance until a voice woke her from her thoughts.
"M-Mommy? Mom? Mom?" The little boy could be seen walking towards the dead woman slowly, as if he still could not believe it.
She realized this and yanked his arm back, her eyes still showing her shock.
She mumbled "No... Run, we need to..."
"S-Sister? Mom is-"
The world seemed to start moving again for the girl, as her dead eyes began to show some life.
"Run!" She yelled at her brother, but also to herself.
She must run, her brother, she can't lose her brother too.
She yanked her brother's arm as they began to run away, running away from the monsters, from their dead mother, running away from the current sadness. She could not wallow in sadness yet, no, not now...
The buildings around them were destroyed, fire was burning everywhere, and the sky seemed to have a tint of red.
'Somewhere, somewhere....' The girl's eyes darted back and forth, trying to find somewhere to hide.
She saw a parking lot building, or well, what remained of it. She ran towards the crumbling building as she tried to find a place to take cover. Then she spotted it, the entrance didn't look big, and she had to glance at it a couple times to realize it was there. Seeing it made her dart towards it like a bullet, though that was how fast she felt, in reality she was staggering and panting as she ran.
She reached the entrance, then pulled her brother forward as she lead him through. Her brother, who was still confused, followed along and went inside.
The girl did not even look behind her as she scurried into the hole, the only thoughts going through her head was to get inside, to live, to find out what was happening.
Finally, once she was inside she looked around, staring around the room made out of fallen building. Seeing there was no way for them to be seen outside, the adrenaline in her body calmed, causing her to stumble forward.
Her brother seeing this, ran up to her and helped her back up.
"Alex? Your not hurt right?" He look at her body with a worried expression
Hearing her name being said, she knew he was worried.
"I'm fine Caron, don't be scared alright? Everything is fine." She let herself free from his grip.
He stared at her blankly, before his face washed with anger.
"Why?"
"I-"
"Why?! We were so happy?!"
Tears streamed from his eyes, the pain of losing a loved one seemed to come back to him. His head hung low before it turned up to look at Alex.
"Mommy, she's ok right? I'll just wake up and see her tomorrow, right?" He smiled, but it looked as if he had broke.
Alex frowned seeing this, she felt a pain in her heart. Seeing her brother, oh her cute little brother, in such agony, in such sorrow.
He stared up at her, his smile gone, "Aren't you sad? Why? Why aren't you crying?"
"I'm sad, I'm really sad but... I can't drown myself in sadness, crying won't fix anything."
She walked towards him and she held him in her arms.
Shhh
Being in his sister's arms, he began to cry like a child.
"Don't be to loud ok?"
He nodded then buried himself in her chest and continued crying softly.
Hours seemed to have passed until he finally fell asleep. She used his jacket to make a makeshift pillow, and covered his body with her own jacket.
She stared at him, his eyes were red and puffy, and a little bit of snot was dripping from his nose.
'He really cried a lot didn't he.' She smiled at him as she tucked her knees towards her body.
She looked up at the ceiling of their hideout, a little moonlight could be seen peeping through the cracks. She needs to be the big sister, she can't let her emotions get the better of her. She smiled looking up, before her face twisted into a crying expression.
wughh- wa- sniff wahh
She cried oh so softly, trying to wipe the seemingly never ending tears flowing from her eyes.
'Even so... I can't stop these tears'
"I fucking hate this, I hate all of!" She whispered to herself
"I'm so weak, and stupid. A strong girl doesn't cry."
sniff
Even as she said these words, the tears flowing from her eyes did not cease, in fact she only began to cry harder.
"Mommy, mommy, mommy." She whimpered
"I miss you."
"I love you."
"I love you."
"I miss you mommy."
"I love you mommy."
She said these words, as if hoping to hear a response. But all that greeted her was the silent night. Not even crickets chirped. No leaves rustled in the wind, there was no sound of the bustling city, or the talking of people.
No matter how cold she looked, or strong she seemed to be. She was only human. She was just a 14 year old girl, a 14 year old girl who loved her family. A 14 year old girl who liked cute things, games, shopping, makeup, talking with her friends... She hated it all, she hated this cruel world, the monsters, and herself. She hated her weakness, she knew that there was nothing she could do but... What if she could have done something?
She wishes she could have ate at that restaurant they were going to, she wanted to go to that new store selling those jackets. Maybe learn to use chopsticks so she could eat sushi and dumplings easily.
"Mommy" she cried out one last time.
Finally, she cried herself to sleep. With the loss of her mother weighing on her mind.
