Birds were chirping, but is seemed as if they were also mourning. The day had begun and the sun seeped through the cracks of the small cave.
Alex, being the early bird she was had already woken up, she stared at the cracks of which sunlight came through. Should she check outside? Or wait for her brother to wake up, she didn't want to worry him by leaving him alone...
'I should check outside...'
Usually in horror movies, checking outside was a big mistake. 60% of the time, the killer was there to greet them.
'But if I stay here we'll just starve to death.'
She stood up as quietly as she could, but because she didn't sleep in the most comfortable position last night...
'Hurts like hell.'
If one were to give an example on the way she was feeling, you could say she was like a rusted machine, one that would creak because it hadn't been oiled in a while.
She stretched a bit before walking over to the exit of their little hideout, because both her and her brother were skinny and small, it was easy to go in and out. She hesitated a bit before crouching down a bit and slowly exiting.
'There's no sound so I should absolutely be safe!'
'I hope.'
She peeked her head out a little, still wary of the outside. Seeing nothing dangerous she came out.
Outside it looked like the aftermath of an apocalypse, but unlike what she though, there were overgrown trees, grass coming through cracks, vines that invaded the buildings and moss growing everywhere.
What the hell?
'What the hell?'
It had only been a day yet it seemed like 50 years passed by, Alex though that there would still be fire all over the place. She was expecting a dull gray mess, but instead she was given quite the sight.
It was actually very beautiful, even Alex was in awe. Was this would be like if humans ceased to exist? Oh, wait, yesterday was the apocalypse, never mind...
These thoughts came and went quickly, what Alex really was thinking about was...
'This world doesn't make sense anymore.'
Yesterday was terror and today is beauty, the world changed so much over the span of a couple of hours.
She stealthily crept behind a pillar and peeked outside.
'Not what I was expecting but at the same time it was.'
It looked like the parking lot was not the only place affected by greenery. The outside looked like what you would expect from a well-made movie. Except this was not a movie, but reality.
'It's quiet... I though there were suppose to be monsters?'
Alex remembered what she saw that day, big disgusting creatures, if not for her hate of them she would have called them aliens. Yes, the title monster suit such dirty things.
Even so, there was nothing that resembled such things. Could it be that they had left to another city? Or maybe they were blending in to the surroundings... Alex didn't know what they were and what they could do, so anything was possible at this point.
Out of nowhere a sound of stomping and screeching could be heard, it was getting closer and closer.
'HOLY-' She internally screamed, yet her body moved faster than her thoughts, and she completely hid herself behind the pillar.
KEEEEEECREE
She was scared to look, terrified at that.
'Scary, scary, scary...' Her mind was fogged up with memories of yesterday.
She heard a bone-chilling scream before it went silent.
KREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEGHK-
...
Hearing it go silent she calmed down a bit.
'Wait... did it find me?'
The screech ended at a sudden stop, it might have realized where she was. Was it waiting right there? Waiting to kill her?
These thoughts immediately vanished once she hear a weird sound, as if someone was talking. She flinched, thinking it was the monster but...
'This sounds familiar...'
She moved her hands and cupped her ears as she tried listening a bit closer.
"H——Disgusti—-sh—-Dirty—-—back—ase"
She could only decipher a couple words, but even so this confirmed her thoughts. This sound could only be...
'English!'
She calmed down a bit, and slowly sighed. This could be that monster, it could be trying to lure her but... If this really was a person, wouldn't this mean that she was saved?
'Wait but what was that noise from before?' She wondered
...
She slowly peeked he head out, only to see the most disgusting scene she had ever witnessed.
A big creature that had thin razor sharp teeth and dull eyes, along with what seemed to be a thing handing off it's head. It kind of looked like an angler fish but more disgusting, and it was also extremely big.
But it wasn't the way it looked that disturbed her, it was the fact that it's body was cut in half and it's organs seemed to be spilling out. From her angle she couldn't see very well, but combined with it's looks, the weird purplish blood leaking out, and the soft-looking grayish greenish things coming out, it made her want to puke.
'I'm glad I can only see this much' She thought as she held one hand on her stomach and another on her mouth.
Her eyes drifted off from the monster to the human-looking thing on top of it, wait no- she was sure that was a human.
She stared at the person on top of the corpse, it seemed to be a young man with black hair, along with black attire. The rest she couldn't see too well. But was she could see was a sword, it looked to be covered in the purple blood.
'Wow, how was he able to cut it when it was so big?'
The monster was quite big, so much so that a human could stand on top of it perfectly fine.
She leaned in a bit closer to try and look at his face, but when he looked up they locked eyes. His eyes seemed to be a dark red and his gaze was like a knife. She flinched and hurriedly hid back behind the pillar.
He didn't see me right? Although Alex felt relieved that the monster was dead, she was even more terrified at the man that had killed it, what if he was a psycho and came to kill her too?! She couldn't take any chances, not even with someone of her own kind.
Alex slowly peeked back at where the man was, but he was gone! The only thing that remained was a monster corpse.
'I think I've had enough today...' She was shaking a little 'Dammit I'm only 14 and I feel like I'll die from a heart attack!'
She went back to the hideyhole, or cave? Anyways, she went back to the cave-base after worrying about her brother. She had stayed outside for a while, and he might have woken up already.
She maneuvered through the entrance and as she entered she saw a small boy sitting down looking at her.
"Sister..."
