An Emotional Moment and a Quarrel

"Sister..."

"Oh Caron, you woke up!" She smiled

"I heard a noise that woke me up"

"..."

"Was there a monster?" He stood up and walked to her

She wanted to tell her brother about the man, about how he kill a huge monster with a small sword, and about his cold gaze.

But the words didn't leave her mouth, she couldn't tell him, she couldn't give him hope about something not even she was sure of. But maybe she was just making up excuses, even so the words could not leave her mouth.

"I saw two monsters, a really big one and a small one. They were fighting."

"Are you hurt?!" Caron held her shoulders and looked her up and down

"No I'm fine, the small monster killed the big one with it's sharp claws, afterwards it ran away." She patted his head while she smiled, trying to comfort him.

He hugged her, but she was able to see his frown.

'This is too emotional for me...'

She needed to lighten the mood somehow.

"It's really pretty outside you know!" She pulled him away and looked into his eyes

"?"

"Yeah, there was trees growing everywhere and the plants were overgrown!"

"Really?" He looked at her suspiciously

"Yeah, if you want to I can show you."

She smiled at him

"N-No I'm fine" He looked down awkwardly

She gave a small sigh 'Seems like he's still scared. But we can't stay here forever...'

The day of the incident they were heading to a restaurant, because of this she had skipped lunch so she could eat. Though because of this, she was in a tough situation.

"Hey are you hungry?"

He shook his head

"Really?" She asked in a suspicious tone

"I ate yesterday..." He looked at her firmly

...

'Dammit just hearing the word 'ate' is making me hungry!' She internally screamed

To be honest, although she was hungry, she didn't wan't to take the risk. Since her brother was fine she could wait a bit longer. After seeing the size of the monster outside, she felt like her confidence to survive had dwindled. Before she felt like she would be able to go out and look around, but now she was so scared that she didn't even dare go to get food.

"Are you hungry?" Caron looked up at her

"Only a little, I can last a little longer." She confidently told him

Though she really wasn't all that confident.

"Let's relax for a bit, I almost had a heart attack when I heard the monster, haha"

They moved a bit deeper into their cave-base, it really wasn't all that big. Although she would rather not waste the brain power trying to figure out an estimate of the size, it was big enough for the both of them to walk around normally, so she was fine.

They sat down silently, it was an awkward silence. Both of them simply stared out, absentmindedly.

"Are you still tired?" Alex asked

"No I slept ok, I'm not tired." Caron shook his head

"Ok... Good..."

'Jeeze I gotta think of something.'

Since she was going to need food soon, she should try devising a plan on how she would get it.

Lets see... Since they were pretty close to school, and they were heading to a restaurant, the nearest gas station was quite the walk away. There's a Publix near her home but that would still require her to walk quite a lot.

'Ok wait, I need to narrow down my options.'

The Publix near her home was a so-so and that gas station isn't an option anymore. That liquor place should be nearby.

Alex really didn't know what to call it other than 'That liquor place' she had no idea what the name was. All she knew was that it was the place her dad got his beer.

'Dad...'

She hadn't though about him much, probably because he wasn't the one to die in front of her eyes-

'I seriously gotta stop thinking about that!' Every time she though about her mom, her heart would hurt and she would feel tears well up in her eyes.

Her father was on a business trip, so he shouldn't have been in the city yesterday. He said he would be gone for a week, and he left on Sunday. It's Wednesday right now so he'd still be away.

'Well I doubt he'd come here anyways, especially since it's so dangerous.'

All that she hoped for was that he was alright, hopefully once they got out of this place they would be able to meet him.

'Ah wait, wasn't I thinking about how I was gonna steal food?'

'Well it's not like I'm really stealing it anyways. Everyone's gone...'

And so she continued thinking up of plans to eat, her stomach was growling but it didn't reach the point were it would hurt yet.

'So hungry...'

SLAM

An older man could be seen slamming his fists on a desk, causing it to crack and nearly split in half. Fury could be seen on his face.

"S-Sir David, what happened?"

A skinny man with short brown hair and glasses asked meekly to the angry looking old man.

That old man was David, he had gray hair and a scar running across the side of his face vertically, he was well built and had a commander-like aura that surrounding him.

"Florida..." David gritted his teeth

"Florida?"

"Yes! Those fuckers also attacked Florida!"

The man with glasses looked shocked, his eyes were wide and and mouth hung open.

"Stop it with that stupid face, and call the army officials located there!" He Roared

"Y-YES!" The other man quickly saluted and ran out of the room.

"Sorry about that he's new, only his first week here." Somebody sitting in one of the chairs rolled back and spun around to face the old man.

"Jenny move him out of this part of the department for the time being, we can't have newbies waltzing around here, especially in times like these." His voice lowered into a more respectful tone

It was a woman with dirty blonde hair, and light blue eyes, and was wearing an intercom headset. She looked at David and sighed.

"Yeah ok, but can you calm down a bit? I can see a vein popping out of your head, at this rate you might just pop a blood vessel."

She joked around a bit, but David's face didn't change. Seeing this, she turned serious as she looked at her computer.

"Shit, if only we had just prepared..." She frowned

"No, it's the people at the ORC's fault. Wanting to keep things hidden just for some goddamn research!"

"Shhhh! Don't say that out loud, the higher-ups don't even want to hear about them!" She put a finger over her mouth as she shushed him.

"Hah! Yet they were to ones to accept their proposal in the first place! Even after the other department heads opposed it!" He laughed coldly, causing everybody else in the room to shiver.

Jenny rubbed her shoulders as she complained, "Don't laugh like that! It's creepy!"

"Like the stalker type creepy!" She added

"Ok ok, stop screaming." He tried to console her nervously, yet under his breath he grumbled "Young people these days, can't even handle a bit of pressure."

"What?"

"Nothing..."

"Anyway's, I know their goal, but what do they specifically like... do?" Jenny looked at him curiously, "You've been there a couple of times right?"

"Go there yourself, your the vice of this department!"

"But I heard that the stuff there is creepy! And what if the creatures they've contained escape! I don't wanna die just yet!"

David looked at her, "You just don't want to go."

"No, I'm just busy!"

"..." (David)

"..." (Jenny)

"I'm tired..." David held his forehead

"Me too..." Jenny slumped back in her chair
