Chapter 28: More Bad News

Not going on the mission is painfully difficult, but I decide not to go because I want to give Zariah this opportunity, especially after Oscar opens his big mouth. I decide to stay in my office and get some work done. There’s plenty to do here, even if it seems like I have spent most of the time I’ve been Alpha working.

About an hour and a half after they leave, my phone rings. I grumble. I hate speaking on the phone, but I most especially hate speaking on the office phone. It’s usually another Alpha, and they almost never want to talk about anything good.

Yet, I have to pick up the phone anyway. “Alpha Micah,” I say while I am still looking at a report of how much we are spending on the schools each month. It’s a lot.

“Hi, Alpha Micah. Good morning. This is Alpha Wilson from Bright Star pack.”
