Chapter 27: You What?

Hallie’s POV

The sunlight is warm against my exposed skin, and I can physically feel the thin sheen of sweat covering my entire body. I hadn’t thought about what the weather would be like when I texted Abby late last night and asked if we could have lunch on the lawn in front of the library.

After the almost kiss with River – I like to think that’s what it was – I stood in the kitchen for at least ten minutes staring at the doorway. I was hoping that maybe River would come back and explain what happened and why he left so suddenly. But he didn’t come back.

When I returned to my room, I immediately texted Abby because I needed to tell her what is going on with River. Every time I build up the courage to explain everything to her, something gets in the way, and I’m left bottling up all these emotions. It feels as though I’m going to explode at any second unless I get it off my chest.
