Chapter 28: Please Stay

Hallie’s POV

My heart is racing as I pace the hallway in front of room 519. I can hear River shuffling around in there, making my nervous energy worse because I have no idea what I’m going to say to him or why I’m here at all.

After his declaration earlier today on the lawn, I didn’t get a chance to talk to him before he swiftly left. I don’t know if it’s because he had somewhere to be or because there were a lot of people watching us.

I get the sense that River Knight doesn’t openly admit he has feelings for someone in front of a crowd of people very often, so I understand why he wanted to leave so quickly. It did mean leaving me in shock and Giselle shooting me the dirtiest look I have ever seen from someone.

After River left, Giselle wasted no time calling me every name under the sun before stalking away with a frown on her face. Having her speak to me like that went in one ear and out the other because all I could think about were the words, “I like her a lot.”
