Chapter 31: Connecting The Dots

Hallie’s POV

I slam the door to my bedroom behind me, pressing my back against it. My heart is in my throat and I’m struggling to breathe. It could partly be due to me running here after leaving River alone in the alleyway and because my heart rate still hasn’t returned to normal after hearing the words “I’m a vampire.”

“A vampire,” I mutter under my breath, shaking my head as I walk toward my bed and sit on the edge, staring at the ground. “Surely he can’t be serious.”

I mean, yeah, I have noticed some odd things about River since meeting him, but surely, they aren’t all signs leading to the possibility that he’s a vampire, right? Sure, it’s weird that I haven’t seen him eat a full meal and that I spotted a jar of red liquid in his room.

Sure, it’s weird that the photograph Professor Zen showed of the Tarrio clan reveals a man who looks exactly like River, and even showed a photo of the ring he wears that “protects him from the sun.” That’s just a coincidence, right?
