Chapter 30: The Truth

Hallie’s POV

My eyes dart between River’s arm, wondering how on earth it went from burning under the stream of sunlight to being completed healed in the span of a minute. Although it has felt longer with the deafening silence in the air between us.

“E-Explain what?” My heart is hammering in my chest and my mind has gone blank. I have what feels like a hundred questions running through my head like a steam roller, but I’m struggling to form sentences, let alone words, to help me understand what I just witnessed.

River lowers his arm to rest it on his lap. His eyes are locked with mine and I can clearly see the distress behind them the longer we sit here.

My head is telling me to run away and never look back because what just happened is next level and out of this world. I’m starting to wonder if what I saw truly happened or if my mind is playing tricks on me. But my heart is telling me to stay and listen to what he has to say.
