Chapter 39: The Questioning

River’s POV

My eyelids feel heavy and sluggish as they try to flutter open, but the pain coursing throughout my entire body makes it a little hard. It feels as though I have been set on fire and then electrocuted with the way my skin feels hot and irritated, and every muscle in my body is screaming for relief as they tighten under my skin.

A groan escapes my lips as I try to force my eyes open. My thought process is sluggish and weak as I try to figure out what the hell happened before I blacked out. All I remember is having an arrow shot into my shoulder, collapsing on the ground, and then hearing a man’s voice before I fell into the darkness.

Once my eyes are fully open, adjusting to the dim lighting, my head aggressively pounds inside my skull, making it harder for me to keep my eyes open. Whatever was on that arrow f*cked me up because I feel like sh*t right now.
