Chapter 32

Paul hadn't given Kerry the opportunity to talk. After investigating most of the night, the crew had crawled back into the hotel room just before dawn and crashed. He'd woken before the others and had made his way to City Hall to obtain more records on Black Canyon. When he'd gotten all he could, he made copies and started back to the hotel, successfully avoiding her the entire day.

He knew it was cowardly, but what the hell else could he do? The look on her face after he'd kissed her had said it all. There was no way in hell he was going to hash this out, dissect every thought he'd had about her through the years, and leave himself bleeding in the process.

It wasn't happening.

He let himself into the hotel room and was immediately shushed by Sammy. He glanced around. Kerry had her cell to her ear and everyone's attention was focused on her.

"She's on the phone with the hospital," Sammy whispered.

Oh damn. He'd almost forgotten.
