Chapter 12

Caleb arrived at Presto town after around 20 minutes and strolled past the crowd. In comparison to the previous time he came here, the town's population has grown.

As the game Legacy's popularity grows, he expects this scenario to occur. People's interests will undoubtedly grow as a result of the many new elements incorporated into the game.

Caleb then proceeded to the town's portal part. Players can also be found standing by the town portal. He believes these visitors were either looking for a new town to visit or were simply inquisitive about the area.

"I'd want to go to Cannae Town! A friend told me there was an NPC that would buy Dai's eyes for 20 coppers each!"

"However, I heard Cannae town was quite far away."

"You only have to look at the price, it's too expensive for us..."

Caleb can hear the three people's conversation. He took a glance at them and noticed their classes. They were Lancer, Berserker, and Elementalist.

He deduced from their words that it was about the other town of Cannae. This town was the furthest away as it was on the outskirts of Warthford city. It also has a unique location, which is the marshland that is home to various monsters.

Dai's Eyes were dropped by Dai fish, a level 1 common monster found in lakes and ponds. It was a neutral monster that never attacked even when someone passed by. A player can attack it without fear of losing their life, but the fish always give 1 EXP.

Killing it was a tedious job because it was very agile in the water, so only a few players would want this monster for leveling.

The eyes of it can be sold to an NPC Alchemist for 1 copper per 5 pairs. Thus a place where Dai's eyes can be sold at 20 copper each will become popular in no time.

Caleb knows who this NPC is. In his former life, he was also one of those who was eager to go to Cannae.

This NPC was a Warlock with a subclass of Alchemist. Nobody knows why he collected these eyes and rumors say it's for his new spell or he found a new potion.

Whatever it is, the players began to go to Cannae and because the TP prices were high, they often stay in the town. This caused the players in the hunting grounds of Dai Fish to congregate and brawls were bound to happen.

Caleb quietly sigh as he remembered the times when he fought bravely against the other players for only 20 coppers.

He then shifted his gaze to the box beside him and fed 5 copper coins to the portal. After five seconds, the voices around him changed as he arrived in Latifa.

There were people here as well and he can see several players that seem, experts since all of their equipment was pretty decent.

Obtaining this equipment would need them to fight monsters whose levels are higher than their own.

Caleb can't see their level and can only guess that they are already level 3 or 4. He started to walk again and at the same time noticed one of the players who was holding a double-bladed ax.

'Dallan huh. I remember he has a party of five people.' He thought as he glanced at the people besides Dallan.

Caleb knew this man. He was the party leader of the [Variant Era]. They are not part of a guild and consist only of independent players.

These players tend to hate restrictions as much as he does but are more adventurous than him. They love raids and quests, in his previous life, this party gained fame but ended one day when three of their players decided to join a guild.

Caleb returns his gaze to Dallan, who is currently speaking with his team. He intended to sell his item to them, but with their current equipment, the chances of them purchasing it were slim.

As a result, Caleb dropped the thought and continued walking toward the Administration building.

The mayor of this town was Brix Lionhart. He was a Shield Warrior in the past but decided to settle down and become one of the mayors in Warthford City.

He didn't know the specifics of the hidden quest he had triggered; all he knew was that the first person to complete the Rift of the Cursed Swordsman received a task from the mayor of the town where he had first resided.

Caleb, on the other hand, remained collected and confident in his abilities, even though he had no idea where his quest was taking him.

After a few minutes, he arrives at the front of the administration building.

It was too crowded!

These players lined up in this place to get a normal quest that was issued by the administration staff. These quests usually involve collecting stuff like a part of a monster or herb gathering.

Some players would be lucky if they will get a quest that is sometimes connected to another quest. In other words, a quest chain.

Also, players who were tired of fighting monsters were taking a change of pace in this building.

Aside from the long line, a normal quest given in this location provides less EXP than a normal quest given by an NPC outside.

Thus, even if finding a normal quest from another NPC was difficult, experts in the game, such as members of various guilds, would still choose it.

Caleb walks casually toward the front of the building. People who saw this started yelling at him not to cut the line, but he didn't seem to mind.

He knows that these people can't harm him because they're inside the town. If they were to attack another player, guards would immediately apprehend them.

He entered the building and noticed a beautiful woman at the desk who was currently dealing with a player. The name 'Lara' is engraved on her small personnel badge.

Even though the game could employ more administration staff, it purposefully leaves one staff per hall so that players cannot easily obtain a quest.

Caleb decided to stand by the sidelines until Lara was finished.

"Hey! Why are you not in the line? Can't—"

"I'm here for another reason, if I was going to cut the line, I'd already done it instead of just waiting here," Caleb said, cutting the man's words and staring right through him. Because of this, the man gulps and is unable to respond, but another person objects.

"As if we're going to believe you! You bastard!" yelled a Swordsman in his twenties, but then a clear gentle voice echoed inside, calling someone's name.

"Ah, Mr. Azrael! I'm sorry I didn't recognize you right away, the mayor is already in his office above, waiting for you. I'll take you there."

Lara's voice could be heard. She smiles at Caleb, revealing even more of her allure. This image would undoubtedly capture the hearts of men, but Caleb was not so naive as to bite it.

The NPC in Legacy was more intelligent than the NPCs in previous virtual games. It has a higher level of cognition applied to it. As a result of playing a large pool of data, it expresses far more human thought and expression.

"All right, I'll take your offer then." He readily accepts as Lara begins to inform the others in line that she will be gone for a minute.

The players, taken aback by this, simply stared at Caleb and began to speculate on the reason for his admission to the Mayor.

It was the town's mayor! A big shot with a quest that is probably better than the normal ones.

Envy glowed in their eyes, while other players despised Caleb even more because their queue time would be extended once more.
