Mathew's POV
I brought Derick home without Maggy. This wasn't a popular choice, but she had refused to let go of Danica and Derick was still in a mood. The drive was awkward as Derick sulked in the passenger seat.
"What do you think about Danica?" His sudden question made me frown.
"Danica… She's actually rather amazing." I sighed. "She was born without a pack and lost her parents at a young age." Derick nodded.
"She's a survivor?" I nodded.
"Yeah, Jenny will know more. She and Danica are like sisters." I could see him frowning.
"How did they meet?"
"Jenny lived in the city with her parents for six years when our father was getting the hotel and Casino built." He nodded. "Well, Jenny and her brothers went to the local school and that's how Jenny and Danica met. After the construction was completed and the Hotel was officially in business, Jenny stayed with her older brother and attended middle school and high school with Danica." Derick nodded slowly.
"I thought Danica was younger than Jenny." I nodded.
"Danica was moved up two years. It was thanks to studying with Danica that Jenny was moved up a year and got honors then was accepted into the business management course." He nodded and smirked.
"I… I don't know what to think of her." I frowned.
"Why?" He shrugged.
"My wolf doesn't like her… I think… that or she confuses him." I nodded.
"And what about you?" Derick shrugged.
"She's pretty… stunning really…" I saw a golden opportunity shining at me like a beacon.
"You weren't going to let her go when we put you to bed." I saw the look of horror spread over his face as his cheeks began to burn. "You were buried so deep in her lap…"
"Enough!" He squeaked and shot me a glance. "Never speak of this again." A thought suddenly dawned on him. "No fucking wonder she didn't look at me today." I giggled.
"And you flashed her too." He grunted.
"Twice." I began to laugh.
"You know she's single." I could see him frowning.
"I thought she was with Dean." I shook my head.
"Oh, he wishes, he's basically her sex toy. She's made it clear that she's going to be hard to catch… can't blame her with Rodger on the side." My mind wandered to our conversation yesterday and a shudder ran down my back. I grinned and pulled up into the pack house garage. "You want to try to catch her?" I saw the look on Derick's face.
"I have Lisa." I nodded.
"Why? I mean you say she's a pain in the neck. You even admitted that things have begun to change between you two." He got out the car and gave me a strange look.
"She gives me the sparks." I frowned.
"The mate sparks?" He nodded and I felt my blood run cold.
'FUCK!' was all I could think, and it felt like my wolf was doing backflips in my head.
"But you don't seem sure." He frowned.
"It's not the same as with Lil." He rubbed his face as I climbed out the car.
"I hope not. This would be your second chance mate… but it's meant to be just as intense as your first mate and just as intoxicating…" I took a breath and closed the car door. "You don't seem sure. I mean this is a big deal." He smirked.
"I was sure… I even bought a dam ring… Until…" I nodded.
'Fuck a ring? Was he going to propose to her?' My wolf was like a sheet in the wind. I cleared my throat.
"Until?" I coaxed.
"Until the hot tub…" I frowned.
"What happened in the hot tub?" He bit his lips.
"Someone touched my leg and I felt sparks…" I saw the confusion on his face.
"The hot tub was filled with men... and my mate… and Danica." He grunted as he rubbed both hands through his hair angrily.
"I know, and when Danica first took Maggy and I touched her hand..." I felt my jaw drop.
"There's no way that someone could have two mates… could they?" He shot me a strange almost horrified look. "I know… Dam… I'm going to have a lot to talk about with the elders…" He frowned.
"Why talk to them?" I shrugged.
"I have a hell of a lot of questions but I don't have any answers." He seemed puzzled but it didn't last long as the sound of two boisterous boys bounced around us.
"Dad!" they ran full speed at Derick and jumped up. Derick rounded and caught them and smiled as he looked to Jenny as she carried Lilly with her. I looked to Jenny and she seemed to know I needed to talk to her. She put Lilly down and watched as she ran to Derick.
"You too?" He said and looked at the change in Lilly. "What happened to you?" He looked to me and his face suddenly fell remembering the formula. "What's she drinking now?" Jenny smiled.
"She'll give anything a go… as long as it doesn't look like formula." I saw him smile as he scooped his daughter up. Jenny looked around. "Where's Maggy?" Derick grumbled as he walked inside the boys hanging off his neck.
"She's still with Danica… I told him about the formula poison and he was in such a mood that Maggy wouldn't go near him." She sighed.
"Should I go and get her?" I shook my head.
"Danica said it's all good for tonight. It'll give himself another night to sleep without worrying about her." She nodded and gave a slight smile.
"Well, I have some news for you." I grinned.
"I really want to hear it… but I also have a lot of news for you." She smirked.
"Is it good? My news is good." I hesitated and her smile faded as she closed her eyes. "I hope it's not as bad as I fear." I shrugged.
"Well… I need you to come with me to the elders. Didn't we have a baking contest or something?" I could see her shoulders slump.
"Right now?" She sighed. "Yeah, the fair was yesterday. We put off judging the food until today. I was hoping Derick would come." I shrugged.
"I have so many questions and no answers and once you hear my question you too will be… as interested as I am." She stepped forward and wrapped her arms around my neck sending those warm tingling feeling sweeping through me.
"Let's get this over with." She kissed me. "Most of the elders are at the cake contest you started." I grinned.
"How did that start again?" She rolled her eyes and pulled me towards her car.
"You know dam well it was your stupid mouth that caused the fight. Really, Janet's cakes are the best but Monica's tarts are better." I giggled.
"I couldn't help it. I just wanted to get some cake." She nodded.
"And now you need to go and cast your vote." I nodded and sat in the car.
"I get to eat cake and ask a lot of questions." I rubbed my hands and saw the exasperated look on her face.
"Sometimes I wonder about you… I really do." I shrugged.
"I got to have fun when I can." She smirked and drove to the town hall. where the baking competition was being held.
