“AJ, hold up!” Luna said as she applied the breaks. Which was to say, the idiot wolf came to a full stop, right around the corner where Maxx was being held hostage. At least, I assumed that’s what was going on. Otherwise, why wouldn’t he have met me when he said he would?
“Luna, he’s right there!” I said. In truth, I said a lot more than that, but largely it came out as incoherent babbles. I was a little livid that she had stopped on the precipice of reunion. Although the larger part of me simply didn’t understand.
“I know, babe, I know. It’s okay. Just, feel for him. We’re close, now. Tell me what’s going on.”
“What’s going on!? I’ll tell you what’s g—“
Luna interrupted me with another trademark spiritual caress. She knew how to calm me down, that was for sure. Probably by virtue of spending our entire lives together, even though at the time I hadn’t known what exactly that had meant.
It worked, too. After I took a deep breath, I understood.
