“This is Lakira?” Mr. Bedlam looks around at the mossy grassland stretching out around them.
Genevieve laughs, “Well it has been quite some time since you’ve been here. Things were bound to change.”
Mr. Bedlam rolls off the makeshift transport Genevieve had been carrying him on and slowly brings himself to his feet, “I thought we sent colonists out here.”
Genevieve looks straight ahead and motions for Mr. Bedlam to keep following her, “We did.”
Mr. Bedlam limps at a quickened pace until he is walking side by side with Genevieve. He eyes her, prompting further elaboration on her previous statement. Genevieve sighs in an almost bored way, “Underdwellers kept eating people.”
Mr. Bedlam shrugged the answer off as though it weren’t good enough. Genevieve rolled her eyes at him as she explained, “We only needed to harvest fresh water. We put pumps in place and a few times a year Controllers pick up the stored water and deliver it across the Empire.”
