Chapter 32: Den of Vipers

I flung myself into the car before I'd even had a conscious thought about it. As I shut the door, I saw the guards rush from inside the building and look around for me. I sunk down in the seat and prayed that the tinted windows would be enough to keep me hidden. The longer we could go without Bobby finding out where I was, the better.

"Wow, talk about great timing," I panted, still trying to get my breathing under control.

Ezra sped away from the curb, and I saw a guard take notice of the car. I watched as he pulled out a little notepad and wrote down the plate number. I really hoped it couldn't be traced back to Ezra.

"Timing?" He asked, his tone icy. I looked over and noticed that his hands were gripping the steering wheel tightly and his face was unusually tense. "My being there had nothing to do with timing and everything to do with the fact that I couldn't get ahold of you. What happened, Emily? Why weren't you answering your phone?"
