Chapter 38: Mated

I walked to the library in a daze, drifting through the halls as if I'd known them for years. I tried not to question it as I counted my lucky stars that I didn't run into another vampire. After what had happened with Richard, I didn't think I had it in me for another altercation.

Before I knew it, I stood in front of the ornately carved door. I could feel something pulling me forward. Some innate gravitational force that I couldn't resist even if I had tried. It had been there all morning without me noticing but got stronger with every step I took closer to the library.

I opened the door and glanced around the bright room, seeing nothing until I looked in the corner. Ezra sat on the couch, sipping something out of a mug. As I walked closer, I saw how tense he looked. His shoulders were stiff, and his fingers tapped a rhythmic beat on his mug. As I stepped closer, I saw his eyes follow me closely, watching my every move. Ezra was nervous.
