Chapter 23: Shift in Priorities

Recovery was slow.

Skylar could get out of bed and move around the castle, but his movements were still stiff and he was warned repeatedly – and ignored those warnings – that if he over-exerted himself, he’d reinjure himself.

The king hobbled around his office, fur coat hanging off one shoulder since he still needed a servant to help get his right arm into an arm sleeve.

“You shouldn’t be up and moving around if you can’t even get dressed,” Zane chastised, coming up behind him.

The general helped Skylar get his arm into the coat.

The king sighed and sat down at his desk, slowly. He gripped the armrests with white knuckles, waiting for the pain to subside as he settled in.

“Just because the king is injured doesn’t mean the country stops working,” Skylar grunted.

“Why’d you call me back, Sky?” Zane asked. “We were just establishing a base in Autumn Forest. And not just me, you called the entire company back.”
