Chapter 45: Times Have Changed

“Theros doesn’t seem willing to give this up,” Zane said over a steaming cup of morning coffee.

Skylar grumbled under his breath and took a sip of the scalding beverage, his tongue and throat burning uncomfortably.

“I don’t think he even knows what he is fighting for anymore,” he said.

“We’ve just received word that Theros has lost another foothold in Autumn Forest,” Hunter announced, entering the study that Skylar and Zane had taken over as their military headquarters.

Skylar had been pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome he received from the autumn fae. They all seemed willing to let bygones be bygones since he was there defending them now, and protecting their queen.

“It might not be enough,” Skylar said, setting his coffee aside in favor of some fresh fruit.

“What do you mean?” Hunter asked. He took a seat at the table with Zane and Skylar and helped himself to some tea and sweet rolls.
