Chapter 22: The Tower of Zhelaniye

Heavy eyes flicker open. I attempt to sit upwards, but my motion is unsteady. My head feels light from passing out. 'Lay flat,' my body insists and I listen. After a few moments, my senses slowly return. I realize that I'm on a bed inside a stone room. There is neither a window nor a visible door.

My heart pounds in a panic. I sit upright. As I go to stand, I find that my left ankle is bound by a chain.

"What in Pandemonium?" my voice squeaks.

I smack my lips. While dehydrated and bound to the wall, my body feels distant. I decide to walk around and investigate. There has to be a door somewhere in this room. The chain is long and can extend to the far reaches of the chamber.

My hand begins to pound on the stone. 'Nothing...nothing here...nor on this side.' Suddenly, my mind circles from the stress. I slump to the floor and bury my head in between my knees. I shake my head. 'Where's your resolve, Umlingo?' I cannot break down now. Otherwise, I may make desperate calls.
