Chapter 64: Pretty boxes

She went closer and touched a box, curious about the texture. Could they be gifts - for her? She wanted them to be for her, but the way he'd interrogated her while he gave her pleasure made her wonder if he was trying to win her over to get information from her. She'd never had gifts before; she could accept them without telling him any cyborg secrets. Anatu looked around. Maybe she could put one on the dressing table and some of the pretty small ones on the side tables. She chose a gold box with a purple bow and carefully placed it on a small, brown table. She liked the way the color of the table showcased the box. She grabbed another one and carefully placed it on the left side of the dressing table where it caught the light. It had a silky-soft texture with birds and flowers printed on it.

A horrifying thought occurred to her. She was acting like a clone, coveting things. But Aurora had said it was all right to want things and to appreciate beauty.
