Doing Good Deeds

This continued for quite a long time, and quite a few days went by with doing simple things such as refining the energy.

Sigh!

Saber let out a sigh while he lay on his bed watching the ceiling. It had been more than a couple of weeks since he joined the Sword Art Sect... or at least some semblance of it. Since he knew that the external section of the Sect couldn't even be considered a part of it.

He had refined all the energy inside of his mind domain and formed a pool about the size of five meters. All he needed to do now so to enter the Spirit Foundation realm, was to turn that liquid energy into solid energy and form a platform.

After condensing the liquid energy into a solid matter, it would form a platform that would be very important for the future of his cultivation. Well, at least that is what he learned from the classes that were free to go to over the last two weeks.

Lazily getting out of bed, Saber walked out of the room and headed toward the mission hall. Andre was still sleeping, along with most of the external disciples. Saber entered the Elder Hall and waved his hand to the old book reader. Though he appeared polite, those indifferent and cold eyes fooled no one.

He then walked up the stairs, leaving an old man with cold sweat all over his body. What entered his view once he entered the top floor was another counter with an even older-looking man behind it who was sleeping. Next to him was a 3-meter wide blackboard with papers stuck onto it.

Sifting through all of the missions, Saber saw a mission that paid him with a plentiful of spirit stones and was also to his liking. Spirit stones were items that could speed up his cultivation of Sage energy or could be used as a currency, hence why non-cultivators were willing to be slaves to alchemists just to get them.

Placing the paper with the information about the mission on top of the counter and knocking on the counter, Saber immediately woke the old man up from his beautiful sleep. The old man was momentarily stunned by the fact that he was in an old mission hall but, he came back to his senses soon after and watched into the eyes of the being who woke him up.

"Are you sure you want to take this mission on?" He asked with a bored and slightly annoyed tone. Saber nodded his head, causing the old man to shake his head and a ring mysteriously appeared in his hand. He gave the ring to Saber and said.

"This is a space ring, simply infuse it with a little of your Sage energy and you'll be able to take out or put in items into it. You are to bring the heads of all 12 of those bandits for you to get the reward."

Hearing those words, Saber immediately left with the map of the village that the bandits ruled over. He had a smirk on his face since this was akin to free spirit stones for his level of power. With the spirit stones, he'll be able to enter the Spirit Foundation realm way faster than he had initially thought.

With brisk walking, Saber exited the sect gates and passed by the guards whom he met when he first came. Without him realizing, their eyes released dangerous lights as one of them dug into his pocket and took out a talisman. While speaking into it, his gaze did not leave the sight of Saber who had begun to gradually disappear from the valley.

'According to this, my destination is a few kilometers away!' Saber thought while watching the map in his hand. He pondered if he should simply fly there or walk, but just before he could make a decision, he sensed a few energy signatures were sneakily following behind him. They were so weak that he had not even realized it until they got quite a bit close.

Either side of Saber were mountains with many cave-like structures so he knew they were hiding in those. He calmly halted his movements and waited for his pursuers to make their appearance. He was feeling kind-hearted today so he decided to give every one of them a chance.

"If you come out right now, I'll give you guys a chance. It is completely up to you whether you believe me or not. Though, if I was you, I'll listen to your instincts and begin running!" Saber calmly said, while his voice sent beads of sweat down the backs of his pursuers. But, unexpectedly for Saber, none of them began running away.

"It seems even when I go out of my way to do good deeds, some of you do not know how to appreciate such a magnanimous act." Saber said with annoyance clear in his voice. Shockingly, the few humans who were secretly following Saber suddenly lost view of him. It seemed as if he had simply disappeared from his position.

'Shit!!' One of the pursuers thought in alarm. Her chest began moving up and down hysterically. But, right as she had time to begin processing her current predicament, a cold feeling suddenly appeared behind her. As if he was a non-cultivator with an average body, and sent into a freezer. Then a sharp object contacted her neck as a cold and indifferent voice resounded like the devil's whisper in her ears.

"I guess that Noelle sent you guys. Tell me, have I guessed right?" Saber coldly whispered into his stalker's ears while his nail slowly dug into the skin of her neck. He had a slight smirk on his face when seeing the blood leaking out of her neck. His lust for murder and blood had been suppressed along with his strength for too long and he was finally able to release some of it.

This is the exact reason that besides the Spirit Stones, he had zero qualms about being ordered to fight for someone else. Plus, with an excuse such as doing a mission, Saber could say he is doing the world good by wiping those bandits from the face of the living realm. But, even better than that was the fact that he was able to get an appetizer which was these poor folks who bit off more than they could chew.

"Y-yes sir, Miss Noelle sent us to kill you. Please let us go, we are only doing what we were ordered to do. It isn't as if we had a choice in the matter." She begged Saber with tears forming in her eyes. Even if she was trained, knowing full well that you were about to face inevitable death, is something that even the most trained assassins would hesitate in doing. Hearing her plea, Saber was once again left confused by the thinking of humans as he replied.

"You say something about not having a choice? Well, I will ask you, if Noelle asks you to slit your throat, would you do it since you have no choice?"

Saber's words left the female speechless and seeing the female assassin in a stupor, Saber couldn't believe that she seemed to even be considering the question. It seemed that he still had a lot to learn even if he had absorbed human memories.

Thud!!

The assassin's body fell lifelessly to the ground as Saber disappeared from his position!
