Chapter 33: Chasing Divinity

Christian suddenly draws away and I almost weep at the loss of him. It feels like a rejection until I see that he is looking past me as though he has seen a ghost, his eyes large and shocked, his face white. I turn, letting him go.

Behind me stands the Moon Goddess. She is smiling a little, the touch of warmth on her rosebud lips sweet and sad at the same time. She is pale in the dark woods, her hair falling around her face and a light sheen like a veil obscuring her features from view, then revealing them one at a time.

Oh my gods. She just saw me kissing a vampire. She just watched me pin him to a tree. She saw us. I could not feel more horrified or embarrassed than if my dead grandmother these past ten years had appeared to scold me for my manners.

"My lady," Christian says in a low voice, bowing before her.
