Chapter 36: Beyond the Mounds of Gold

A wooden slate sat over Larson’s bed. The bearded dwarf carved some human illustrations on it. Larson’s eyes glowed, seeing the cup-sized artisan at work. Each detail was clear on the single-foot piece.

“Welcome to Edwin’s crash course on ‘Talking with Women.’” The bearded dwarf held an inch-long stick. He pointed at the words written on the topmost portion of the slate.

The boy raised his hand. “I have a question.”

“Yes?” He gestured toward him.

“Why am I here?”

Edwin tapped the stick on his palm. “I thought you wanted to mend things with her?”

“Yeah, so?” The boy’s eyebrow rose.

“Talking is the first step, my boy.”
