Chapter 40: Love, at last

Nyatalia placed her hands on her waist. “What on earth were you doing inside Merlize’s pocket, Edwin?”

“Don’t I deserve some rest? I need a break from your whining, kids.” The bearded dwarf copied her pose. “Besides, things get resolved after fighting among yourselves.”

“He does have a point.” Merlize cut in.

The robed man rearranged the potions and other healing equipment from his brown bag. He looked up at the tribal girl, pushing her hair behind her ear. As if stars landed on her face, she sparkled in his eyes. Her scowl danced with the wind, but Travis kept his sights at eye level.

“How is your face, little girl?” Travis zipped his bag and touched her cheek. “Does it still hurt?”

“It’s stinging a bit, but I’ll live.” The orange-haired girl reeled away from his hand.

“That’s good to hear.” The robed man kept his hands to himself. “Uhm, can I ask you a question?”

“You’re already asking.”
