Chapter 49: A Song of Trumpets

Merlize visited the Oracle of the First Dawn of the Sun, Janice Weatherknots. Before the tribal girl parted from Larson, she snatched Edwin’s folded body from his pocket. She unfolded and presented it to the oracle, who sat outside her violet and yellow tent counting her coins.

“H-hey, is that…?” The violet-robed woman’s index finger trembled at the bearded dwarf’s flattened corpse.

“I’m so sorry,” she regretfully said. “A demon did this to him.”

Janice’s world shattered upon hearing those words. A transparent liquid crawled out of her eye as she received him in her arms. “He promised he would settle down with me. I… how can I…?”

The oracle collapsed to her knees on the grassy floor. The wind carried her tears toward the afterlife. Oh, if only Edwin could see her earthly woes.

“I should head to the castle and have your payment ready.” Merlize turned her back to her.

Janice pulled her wrist. “Wait! Do you have his titanium hammer?”

“It’s inside his sling bag.” She pointed out.
