Chapter 11: The Other Night

Mikki didn’t sleep that night. She couldn’t stop replaying her conversation with Max at the kitchen over and over until she was tired of staying in the same position in bed and had to turn over.

At first, she thought about leaving when she saw him there, looking all handsome in sweatpants and a white shirt. His hair was messy and she couldn’t stop staring at his sapphire eyes. They were especially blue that night. Why was it so hard to ignore him, she wondered for what it felt like the hundredth time ever since she had met him.

Then, when he told her to stay, boldness and an unknown confidence took over her. She didn’t want him to see her as a child. In fact, she never behaved like that before in her entire life, and she wanted him to know that.
