Chapter 28: Homesick

That night felt particularly sad and lonely for Mikki, since Max was taking longer than usual to get home. She started to worry when the clouds closed in and hid the moon and the stars. She could feel there was a storm coming and she worried about Max.

The safe house wasn’t too far, but it was far enough for him to get involved in something dangerous.

Not being able to sleep, Mikki grabbed some photos she brought from home and went to the garden to breathe some fresh air and wait for Max.

The wind was blowing strongly this evening, and she forgot her coat upstairs, but she didn’t feel like going back to her room again, so she forced herself to endure the cold for a bit.

Mikki opened her photo album and started to stare at photos of her and her brothers when they were young. Some even showed her mother and father, smiling at their kids playing around and teasing each other.
