Chapter 9

I groaned as my eyes slowly adjusted to the light. I observed my surroundings. I was in a hospital ward.

Devon,you okay?

I had to make sure my wolf was okay.

Of course I'm okay,I'm in your head.

Am I done healing?

Almost,that lycan bite was really strong.

Yeah,I know.

Our mate is going to be a strong Luna.

Not our mate, I am going to reject her.

Reject mate? You can't do that, it'll break us!

I am the strongest Alpha,my emotions can't hurt me.

What about me?

You'll learn to deal with it.

And what about the Royal gala? We'll need to show our subjects and fellow Alpha's our soon to be Luna.

They'll learn to live with it.

It'll damage your reputation. The cursed Alpha without a Luna. The council will pick a new Alpha. The people need a Luna.

A responsible Luna.

Devon's reply was cut off by a knock.

"Come in," I growled, already agitated.

Violet's father walked in.

"How are you feeling?" He asked and sat down on a  sofa.

"Take a guess."

"I'm sorry, about what happened."

"My mate is a lycan." I hissed. "Of all creatures,a lycan. You're clearly a wolf,so how is she a lycan?" I spat.

"She's not our biological daughter,my wife found her,just outside our borders,along the path to a nearby pack. We took her to the pack but no one took responsibility. As a result,we took her in." He let out a sad chuckle.

If I find out who abandoned mate,I'll rip their head off.

I growled in agreement.

"Does she know?"

He nodded.

"Please do not reject her,it would ruin her completely." He pleaded.

"Where is she?" I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

"She's in her room. Should I send for her?"

"Please do."

He nodded and left. Few minutes later,I heard a knock.

"Can I come in?"

"Yeah."

The door clicked open and she walked in. Her mouth watering scent filled my nostrils, driving me insane.

"Sit," I ordered.

She rolled her eyes and folded her arms.

"Why?"

I was taken aback b her defiance.

"I said sit."

"And I asked why." She popped a gumball into her mouth.

I huffed In frustration.

She's like a demon in the body of a goddess.

You could try being nice to her.

Not gonna happen.

Then I'm taking over.

I could feel myself slowly losing control of my body.

Devon!

(Shut up and watch.)

Violet's POV

I smiled with satisfaction. Ray looked like he was going to explode. His eyes glazed over and I knew he was talking to his wolf.

I stared at the wall clock. How long is this gonna take?

"Please sit." Ray's voice snapped me out of my reverie. His eyes had turned golden.

Did he just say please?

I arched a brow and slowly sat on the bed beside him. It could be a trap to eat my brains or something.

"I'm Devon, Ray's wolf." Hegave a toothy grin.

No wonder he was being nice. It was his wolf.

"Nice to meet you Devon,I'm Violet. Not that you don't know... but...yeah."

"Well,we had a bad start but how about we forget about all that." He said with a killer grin.

"Sure,no problem. Is Ray okay with this though?"

He chuckled," not really."

"He's very annoying," I complained.

"You know he can hear you right?"

I smiled and nodded.

"I know...he's going to reject me right?" I asked,my smile slowly fading away.

"No,we won't."

Devon looked dead serious,but I knew it wasn't his choice to make. He could only talk him out of it.

"You don't know that,he thinks I'm a threat." Devon's eyes glazed over and his eyes turned back to normal.

Ray's POV.

"You don't know that,he thinks I'm a threat."

It broke my heart to hear that but I couldn't risk my mate ruining my reputation.

Let me talk to her.

Slowly,I took control of my body.

"I don't think you're a threat."

"You don't? You're Ray right? Like the mate that hates my guts."

I laughed. "There is no way someone like you can be a threat to me."

She rolled her eyes," here comes the ego."

"However... I am still going to reject you."

She kept silent. Her face filled with hurt. She took a deep breath." Now?"

"Not yet..." I hesitated." There's a Royal Gala coming up. I'm supposed to go with a female partner. The partner does not necessarily have to be my mate."

She wore a questioning look." You want me to go as a friend and not your mate?"

I nodded.

" Not gonna happen." She stood up to leave." That's literally using me. Why can't you just reject me and get on with it?"

" Because that would affect both of us emotionally. And attending the Gala would boost the reputation of your pack."

She stood in thought. I knew her pack was being overshadowed by other packs. If they had any crisis,it would take a long time for their pack to get any help.

"Dad told you?"

"He did and this is the only way I can help."

"And after that you'll reject me?"

I didn't reply. It was too painful to think of.

"I'll go pack."

With that she left.
