Chapter 46: The Other Witch

Vivian was a good shot, top of her class at training. Aiming the rifle, even in the dark, she hit the target, the men falling silently one by one from their towers. Vivian motioned for Ava to follow her as they walked through the side door on the east side of the wall. Vivian kept her gun aimed as they walked through the barren courtyard. Cars were parked at different angles, giving them both plenty of places to hide or use as shields if they needed to. The place briefly reminded Vivian of one of the training courses, except that the training course had fake targets. These targets were real and Vivian could not hesitate. She had to pull the trigger first.

The sandy ground covered up the sound of their footsteps, allowing Vivian and Ava to make it to the inner door without anyone else noticing their approach. Vivian couldn’t shake the feeling that it was too quiet, too empty. Something was going on and she felt as if she was walking into a trap.
