Chapter 59: Memories

Ava found Blair mixing together garden herbs in the kitchen. Behind Blair’s bare shoulders, Ava could see the lush garden and tall privacy fences that surrounded the back of the house. Layla did not like the neighbors watching. Ava watched Blair unnoticed for a moment. It had been twenty years since she'd been back to this place, even talked to Blair. She could see the slight signs of her age, a few wrinkles at the corner of her brilliantly green eyes, hidden mostly by the thick eyeliner. But there were no grays in her hair, not like Ava, who started dying her own a few years ago. Ava could feel the smoothness of Blair's skin against her own, a memory she never lost.

“I’m mixing you some herbal tea to calm your nerves,” Blair explained, pulling Ava from her memory.

“I’m fine,” Ava deflected, pushing off the doorframe and walking into the kitchen.
