As Ava stood there staring into Chanh's bloodshot eyes, she realized that his information was limited. Someone else knew what Caleb and Emma were doing in Cairo. By Ava's duction, it was most likely Caleb who was relaying information to Marcus, urging him to build an army of controlled vampires to help his cause when Emma gains the ultimate power. Or rather it was The Society that had their hands in this the entire time, being feed information possibly by Emma herself. After all, she'd alined herself with vampires, why not hunters as well.
