Chapter 22: Back to Reality

When I woke up, I was on a different side of the bed than I’d fallen asleep on. I was laying right where Caleb was the night before. I wondered where he was if I had gotten into his spot somehow. When I blinked the tiredness out of my eyes, I got my answer.

Caleb was curled up on the edge, his arm and his leg dangling off the side. We were both confined to that one half of the mattress, and I couldn’t imagine how I’d moved closer to him in my sleep.

I slowly sat up, careful not to jolt the bed too much with my movements. I scooted to the edge, but the springs clanged loudly as I got up.

I froze. I thought I was in the clear for a moment, but Caleb tossed and turned, grunting something incoherent.

“Sh*t,” I muttered. I pulled the sweatshirt down as far as I could over my legs and hurried to the bathroom. After brushing my teeth and changing back into my dress, I untangled my bed head with my fingers in at attempt to look somewhat presentable.
