Chapter 21: The Hotel Room

“You really don’t have to sleep on the floor,” I told Caleb for the tenth time.

He flung a blanket onto the floor next to the bed. “It’s okay, this is what having an emergency blanket in the car is for.”

“Um, no, I don’t think this is what it’s for at all.”

“It’s really okay, Evie,” he assured me, flattening the blanket out. “I can handle a few hours on the floor.”

He was the type of person to put other’s needs before his own, so I doubted I would win that fight. Still, that didn’t stop me from feeling bad.

“Fine,” I said, sighing, “but when your back is killing you during the car ride home, I want you to remember this moment, and how I had absolutely nothing to do with this decision.”

He held his hands up. “Don’t worry, I am fully prepared to accept the consequences of my actions.”
