Chapter 25: Memories

“What made you guys decide to open a bakery of all things?”

Caleb adjusted the camera, focusing in on my mom. She sat on a barstool in front of the back wall of the bakery, which had “Whitman’s Pastries” painted on it in beautiful cursive. She wore a blazer that I’d only seen her wear once before, and that was during the grand opening of the bakery. She appeared more than happy to be making her debut in Caleb’s documentary, wearing the lightest touch of makeup, that caused her skin to glow.

Dad sat next to her, also dressed way nicer than normal. On most days, he simply stayed in the back office and worked on paperwork or inventory, so he typically only wore jeans and a t-shirt. He’d also put gel in his hair and slicked it back, and his beard was neatly trimmed. He, like my mom, was super excited for his moment of fame.
