Chapter 44: Baking Day

After much deliberation, I decided on the six cakes I was going to have Heather and Mason choose from: red velvet, carrot, espresso (the coffee lover in me had to), marble, chocolate raspberry, and lemon. Just for the hell of it, I figured I’d add on a simple vanilla and chocolate, too, in case they decided they wanted to go basic .

I spent way too much time at the grocery store on Saturday morning gathering all of the ingredients. I had to double check my grandmother’s recipes countless times to make sure I had the exact amount of what I needed for each cake. When I was satisfied that I’d gotten everything, I sent a text to Caleb telling him that I was on my way.

My mom had let me borrow a lot of her supplies from both our house’s kitchen and the bakery, letting me take whatever she wouldn’t need for the day. My backseat was stuffed with bags of bowls, pans, spoons, and everything else I could find in my kitchen that I thought we would need to make the cakes perfect.
